On August 8, 2018, Shelby released her first chapbook, entitled Immortal Whiskey. Immortal Whiskey is a chapbook that addresses different aspects of life with elements of humor and truth. This book is comprised of poetry, quotes, and anecdotes that have been written straight from the heart onto the page. You will find a collection of unreleased pieces, as well as rewritten items from the author’s blog. Immortal Whiskey is full of “quotable” items that are meant to be shared, so take a sip and pour into someone else’s glass!
Preface of Immortal Whiskey:
I’ve always been a whiskey girl. Something about it is strong and dominant, yet it can be so diverse in taste. It’s also known to not be for the faint of heart. When I say that I am a “whiskey girl”, I genuinely mean that I am whiskey personified. I can stand strong on my own, but sometimes I need to be mixed in with something less harsh to lessen my impact while taking me in. My words can sting a little during initial contact but become smooth after you have acquired a taste for me. This book is my glass and I have poured every part of myself into it.
It is my hope that you are able to find a little joy in this book. I hope that you find a smile buried between the pages and a lesson here and there. I hope that you see topics from alternate aspects just as I did while writing the words that you’re reading. I hope that you take in my words and become a “happy drunk”. I hope that my words seep up from the pages and sprinkle upon you like the residue of a freshly opened soda.
This chapbook has been a dream of mine for many years. I have started and stopped many times, but finally I went for it. I have been blogging for 8 years, yet I felt that my words needed a greater platform. This book is composed of all original work. Some of the pieces are newly written, some of the pieces were written years ago and never released, and some of the pieces were previously posted to my blog but have been modified. I feel as though my writing has grown just as I have. I have a clear understanding of my literal voice at this time and I stand firm in it.
I have included elements of humor, love, and self-awareness that I hope every reader is open to receiving. My book is meant to be something quoted and shared. Think of my quotes as whiskey shots and my stories as a soda with a double shot. As you already know, drinking is no fun solo so spread the word, but don’t forget to credit the owner (that would be me, darlings). Whether you like your drinks straight up, on the rocks, or with a twist, indulge yourself in my words a little. This is one time you don’t have to worry about a hangover. I don’t drink soda often, but when I do, there’s usually whiskey in it.
